Sierra Nevada mountain range

Eastern Sierra, California
The east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range is truly an awe-inspiring place! The overwhelming majesty can make you feel small and insignificant and, at the same time, make you feel free and bring you a sense of calm and inner peace. All my troubles melt away when I am out in this vast wilderness that I am happy to call my home!

Sunset on Lake Guntersville

Photograph by Rebecca DeArmond

Lake Guntersville, Guntersville, Alabama
I have fibromyalgia and was coming home from a four-hour seminar. I was hurting after sitting so long and feeling sorry for myself. As I rounded a bend in the road, I saw this glorious sunset. It was as though God was saying, "This will make you smile and feel better." It did! I smiled all the way home. Also, I'm sure that God whispered to me that morning to take my camera with me.

Red cardinal

Photograph by Tanisha Grayson

Pottstown, Pennsylvania
It was a snowy day in January, and I was surprised to see a bird in the tree in my front yard. I watch the birds but would not call myself a bird watcher. I like to take pictures, but would not call myself a photographer. I love the colors of nature and could not resist running to get my camera to capture this beautiful red bird against the fresh, white falling snow. It was taken through a window because I was afraid I would scare it away if I opened the door.

Photography has opened up such a wonderful world for me! The beauty I see in nature is such an exciting part of my spiritual being. Photography is my passion. I'm a 64-year-old, single mom of two grown kids and three wonderful grandchildren. I'm very grateful for some "photo angels" who have been put in my life. My dream is to follow a pro photographer to learn technicalities. I am struggling with self-confidence and technicalities. This world is such a beautiful place!

A beautiful national park with mountains, desert and the river. It's not too crowded, so sometimes it feels like you've got the park all to yourself! Just you and nature!

After a wintry nor'easter left much of the Boston area covered in snow and ice, the clouds finally parted and a blue sky emerged.

Penguins

Photograph by Teri Dantzler

Antarctica
Winter in the United States is actually spring in Antarctica. I was given this trip as a gift from a very special man in my life. I will never forget the sights, the sounds and the endless smile that was on my face. This image is of the chinstrap penguins heading in and out of the ocean. It was like a freeway of continual movement.

White flowers

Photograph by Lori Sollars

Catlin, Illinois
I took this photo a few weeks before a strong storm came through our area and split this tree in half. We now have a huge bare spot where this beautiful tree once stood. This photo is a close-up of the flowers that it produced every spring. I do have other photos of the tree in its entirety, but this is my favorite one. This huge, strong tree produced such beautiful, dainty flowers. I am in no way a professional photographer, just exploring with my new camera.

River

This image was taken on a winter morning in 2006. While everyone else was sleeping, I slipped out the door and captured this slow-moving river in Northern Saskatchewan just as the fog was lifting. I called this image "Beyond the Mist."
